A workshop on museum management organized by UNDP with a support from General Secreterate for Supreme Council for planning and Development, started this morning and continue till 19th September. Dr. Sheila Canby former curator of Islamic art at the British Museum and the Metropolitan museum is giving the workshop for trainees from NCCAL and Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah.

A group from the US Army – Camp Arifjan visited the American Cultural Centre to introduce new members to the ancient history of Kuwait as well as the beginning of American-Kuwaiti relationship through the American Missionary Hospital, which began in 1913 which was established by Americans. The leader of the group stated that: “in the battle of Jahra in Kuwait in 1920, Kuwait defended the American doctors and lost some of their citizens to defend us and this sacrifice is provided only by good, authentic and tolerant people”.

His Excellency Ambassador of Australia Jonathan Gilbert and his guest, Architect Peter Mould from Australia paid a visit to The Amricani Cultural Centre and toured the various exhibitions: Modern Architecture in Kuwait and Splendors of the Ancient East- Antiquities from the al-Sabah Collection. He showed his interest in the galleries as well as the museum.

A delegation of Arab and Chinese experts in the field of libraries and information paid a visit to the Amricani Cultural Centre. They were accompanied by Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters and the Director General of the National Library of Kuwait Mr. Kamel Abdul Jalil. The delegation includes Deputy Director of the National Library of China and many senior library officials from the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain and Arab guests from Morocco, Sudan, Egypt and Algeria. The UNDP/DAI Exhibition Wrap-up, with a Visit to the Amricani Cultural Centre
The UNDP/DAI creating an exhibition wrapped up today with a visit to the Amricani Cultural Centre. Dr Christian Robin opened the session with a final review of South Arabian inscriptions on rocks and objects. He was followed by Dr Roberto Fabbri (UDEM), who led the participants through the ‘Splendors of the Ancient East’ exhibition. As the group moved through the galleries, Fabbri explained why the objects were presented as they were. The session ended with the presentation of certificates by UNDP Resident Representative Hideko Hadzialic and DAI Director General Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah.

The UNDP/DAI workshop on exhibition creation reached a new audience today as KTV came to film the sessions and interview the scholars. Drs Christian Robin, Leila Ali Aquil, Roberto Fabbri, Sabina Antonini have been sharing their expertise with participants in the workshop for five days and will continue through Saturday.
