Classic Music Night titled “Dvorak Piano” performed by The Messilah Chamber Ensemble Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No 2 in A major was written as he approached the zenith of his international fame and was composed in the congenial surroundings of his country retreat, Vysoka. Vysoka. The premiere was given on 8 January 1888 at a concert in the Rudolfinum in Prague with four of the finest Czech string players of the day and the promising conductor and composer Karel Kovarovic at the piano. Publication soon followed—chamber music was a far more lucrative prospect for his publisher than symphonies—and the quintet began to make its triumphant way in the world.

He is self taught and has been playing music for almost 20 years with a variety of local and international artists in many different genres. ‘An Evening with Adel Al-Qattan and Friends’ is a showcase of some of the local projects that Adel is most proud to present to the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyahaudience. It includes his bands ‘Kalendi’, ‘Qattana’, as well as a performance of music from his upcoming guitar instrumental album.

Oxford Maqam, the traditional takht (chamber ensemble) performs with an ear for the more cosmopolitan and improvisatory practices at the turn of the 20th century – a period of musical renaissance from Istanbul to Cairo.

Music Night ” An evening of Iraqi Folklore” performed by Abdelhameed Albannay. Abdelhameed Albannay is specialized in the Iraqi Maqam for 45 years. Across the Arab world, maqam refers to specific melodic modes. When a musician performs maqam performances, the performer improvises, based on rules. There are a number of different maqams, each with its own mood and characteristics. There are between fifty and seventy maqams, many of which have sub-styles.

He is a talented violin and oud player specialising in classical Arabic and Turkish instrumental music. He is a very cultured instrumentalist with keenness on precision. As an ethnomusicologist, his knowledge of Middle Eastern musical forms, scales and beats is second to none.
