The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada clebrated yesterday the opening of Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah( DAI) exhibition ( Emperors and Jewels: Treaures from the Indian Courts from The al-Sabah Collection. Kuwait). The opening was well attended by many people including museum officials from Houston and friends from The Louvre. The Kuwaiti representatives were headed by HE Ambassador Abdulhamid al-Failkawi. Mr. Bader al-Buaijan, Head of the Steering Committee of the Friends of DAI, gave the opening remarks on behalf of Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, Director-General, DAI. H.E Dr. Mamadou Tangara, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gambia and H.E Omar Gibril Sallah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary visited the Amricani cultural centre and toured the various exhibitions; splendors of the Ancient east, Loans From The Kuwait National Museum, Long ago Zoo, and The Story of Amricani. They showed their interest in the exhibitions and objects on display.

“Kuwaiti Folklore Evening” performed by Salman al-Ammari. Salman Al-Ammari is a Kuwaiti folk artist, a vocalist and Oud player. He is an admirer of old Kuwaiti sounds, folklore and the Sea Music, influenced by vocalists and famous old Kuwaiti singers such as Hamad Khalifa, Mohammed Zuwaid, Mohammed Bin Fares and DahiBin Walid.

Lisa Urkevich Dr Lisa Urkevich is Professor of Musicology/Ethnomusicology and Chair of the Department of Music and Drama at the American University of Kuwait. She was recently appointed general editor of the College Music Society (CMS) Symposium, overseeing all ten publications of CMS, which is the largest academic music organisation in the world. A group of students from the American University of Kuwait (AUK) visited The al-Sabah Collection ( ASC) accompanied by their teacher Dr. Yasmine al-Saleh who guided the tour, with ASC Assistant-Curator Me. Mutalq al-Juraid, in the storage of the collection. Dr. Yasmine had her PhD in Islamic art from Harvard University on some art pieces kept at ASC.
