Prof. Emerita Doris Behrens gave a lecture on “The Meanings of Recycled Building Materials in the Islamic Architecture of Egypt”.
The lecture documented how building materials from monuments of Ancient Egypt, the Greco- Roman period, the Crusaders, and also Islamic monuments, were removed from their original sites and recycled in the Islamic architecture of Egypt.
Professor Emerita Doris Behrens-Abouseif taught Islamic Art and Archaeology at SOAS, University of London, where she held the Nasser D. Khalili chair. She also taught at other universities.
