We had a full day today, starting with an early flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel. We went to see the temples that were built in Aswan around 1200 BCE and moved to Abu Simbel to save them from ruin when the Aswan High Dam was constructed. There are two temples, the Great Temple, dedicated to Ramesses II himself, and the Small Temple, dedicated to his chief wife Queen Nefertari and they are impressive. Huge sculptures greet you outside and tremendous carvings, inscriptions and images await you on the inside.
