Under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-
Jaber Al-Sabah, and in the presence of the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Abdulrahman B. al-Mutairi, representing His Highness, the conference titled “Distant and Close Relations: Silk Roads connecting two worlds” was held at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre.
The conference was organised in cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah. The attendees included DAI Director General Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, HE the Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature, Dr. Mohammad K. al-Jassar, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Mr. Sameeh Johar Hayat, HE the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Kuwait, Mr. Zhang Jianwei and Dr.Tan Ping, the Administrative Director of Art Exhibitions in China.
The conference explored the meeting of Arab and Chinese cultures through the Silk Road, which bridged across continents, leading to rich cultural, artistic, and commercial exchanges between China and the Arabian Gulf. A select group of scholars and academicians from Kuwait University and museum directors from the People’s Republic of China were in attendance.
