Cultural Season 27th

2022-2023

Kuwait University and The al-Sabah Collection, Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah

An agreement was signed this morning between Kuwait University and The al-Sabah Collection, Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah, in a ceremony that took place at Yarmouk Cultural Centre. The agreement formalises the working relationship between the collection and the university.

The event started with a short talk by Sheikha Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, who focused on new concepts in museum studies and the need to engage with Kuwait University to develop an appropriate scholarly programme. The programme would enhance the abilities of those completing the work and allow local cultural institutions to grow further in fields of museology and archaeology.

Professor Abdulhadi al-Ajmi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, expounded on the special relationship between The al-Sabah Collection and the history students at Kuwait University. This relationship resulted in a section of archaeology studies that has produced some distinguished research for The al-Sabah Collection. This includes scholarly papers on textiles, coins, papyri, Ancient Near Eastern metalwork, Ancient Arabian artifacts, etc.
