Sheikha Hussah Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, Dr. Marilyn Jenkins-Madina, and Ms. Maha al- Essa attended a symposium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (in New York) on the subjects of art, archaeology, history, and religion of Syrian oasis city under the title ( Palmyra: Mirage in the desert). Lecturers from US and Europe participated in this symposium and shared their latest research on the archaeology and the history of Tadmor- Palmyra. All contributors to the symposium paid tribute to their Syrian colleague the late Dr. Khaled al-Asa’ad , the director of antiquities at Palmyra, who was brutally executed by the so-called Islamic States in Iraq and Syria, ISIS. The event was opened by welcoming remarks by Mr. Daniel Weiss, President of the Metropolitan Museum, and was introduced by Dr.Joan Arizona, curator in charge of the Department of Ancient Near East Art at the Met.
