Dr. Sharon Shaffer’s lecture titled, “Making Museums Relevant for Our Children”.
Dr. Shaffer is the founder of Early Learning in Museums, an education consultancy group. She is also the Emeritus director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center.
Her lecture offered a context for understanding the underlying theories and principles related to children’s education and how museums can contribute to their education in families and communities. She also discussed how museums have broadened their thinking about learning to be more inclusive and now develop more programs and exhibitions that extend to different, younger, audiences.
